Website management, DNS, hosting and maintenance
Who manages our DNS/Domain Name?
White Bear do not manage any domain names for their clients. White Bear only hosts your website, therefore we have no control over your DNS and this is all managed by your IT department.
Where is our website hosted?
We use Pressidium for our Wordpress websites. Pressidium® is an award winning Top Tier WordPress Hosting Platform, meaning it's dedicated to providing server space tailored for Wordpress. All Wordpress upgrades are handled by Pressidium, meaning your website will be up to date with the latest versions.
Who controls plugin upgrades?
The support team at White Bear are in control of plugin upgrades. This is due to the complex nature of the themes that have been developed by the team. All plugin upgrades need to be tested beforehand, this can often take time but it ensures no downtime during the upgrade process.
What do we have control over?
Your team has control over any content on the site. Meaning adding and removing pages, news articles, reports etc are completely your teams responsibility. Heres a little breakdown of the role each team plays in managing your website:
White Bear teams responsibilities:
- Managing plugins and Wordpress upgrades
- Launching new development features for the Feedback Centre, Informatics and website.
- Support - i.e training, answering questions, showing the team how to manage their content.
- Resolving any bugs discovered.
Your teams responsibilities:
- Adding content to the site.
- Managing any navigations/menus.
- Managing the news, reports and blog sections.
- Making sure imagery is high quality.
- Moderating and managing feedback.
- Managing social media accounts
- Managing Google Analytics
White Bear do not provide a managed website service, meaning we provide hosting, support (relating to training and technical questions) and maintenance.
Can we have access to a development site?
If you require access to a development site (a copy of your live site that can be altered without effecting any live data) then that can be arranged for you, just as long as you're not already in the middle of migrating to Feedback Centre 2. Please email support@wearewhitebear.com and we'll get this sorted.
How often is our website backed up?
Your website is backed up daily, and two types of back-ups are stored:
Instant Back Ups:
These types of backups provide an instant archived version of your WordPress site.
What is backed up?
- Everything in your WordPress folder, excluding this list of files
- A snapshot of the current database.
Important: The retention policy for Instant backups is 7 days. Meaning we can restore a website from up to a week ago.
Offsite Backups:
Offsite backups are being stored in a safe off-site facility, in cases of catastrophic failure. Offsite backups contain all your websites and media, including the SQL database.
Important: The retention policy for offsite backups is 30 days.
Every 24 hours our infrastructure performs automatically one Instant backup and one off-site.
Where is the Feedback Centre hosted?
The Feedback Centre platform (database and code) is hosted on AWS. Amazon AWS is one of the worldʼs largest and longest-established cloud computing platforms, and is used by companies of all sizes, from startups to household names. AWS is a playing field leveller, enabling any size business to leverage high-end technologies and infrastructure. Amazon AWS has been delivering global infrastructure at a large scale since 2006.
Amazon AWS infrastructure is hosted across the globe, although at White Bear all of the data we process and our hosting is located in the EU or UK.
How often is the Feedback Centre backed up?
The Feedback Centre is fully backed up on a daily basis and manually backed up before any major launch.
Security, Resilience, and Compliance
AWS offers our clients peace of mind when it comes to security and compliance for the storage and processing of their data. ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 27017, ISO 27018, PCI DSS Level 1, HIPAA, and G-Cloud are among the well-recognised certifications that Amazon AWS holds.
Cyber Essentials
In addition to the compliance protections at Amazon AWS and Pressidium, White Bear is also Cyber Essentials certified, our certificate number is 0706583859955686.
Cyber Essentials is a UK government scheme supported by the NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre) that sets out five security controls to protect organisations against around 80% of common cyber attacks.
From 1 October 2014, UK Government has required all suppliers bidding for contracts involving the handling of certain sensitive and personal information to be certified against the Cyber Essentials scheme.
The Cyber Essentials scheme is a cyber security standard, which organisations can be assessed and certified against. It identifies the security controls that an organisation must have in place within their IT systems in order to have confidence that they are addressing cyber security effectively and mitigating the risk from Internet-based threats. T
he scheme focuses on the following five essential mitigation strategies:
• Boundary Firewalls and Internet Gateways
• Secure Configuration
• Access Control
• Malware Protection
• Patch Management
